30% of all cars sold will be EV by 2030
The first known electric vehicle was built in 1832 by Scottish inventor Robert Anderson. Anderson's electric carriage was powered by non-rechargeable batteries and could travel up to four miles at a speed of about 2.5 miles per hour. However, electric vehicles did not become popular until the late 19th century, when rechargeable batteries were invented and improved electric motors were developed. In fact, electric vehicles were more popular than gasoline-powered vehicles at the turn of the 20th century, until the development of mass-produced, inexpensive gasoline vehicles led to a decline in the popularity of electric cars.
Charging stations are now being mandated on a municipal level with varying requirements. Salt Lake City recently announced requiring 1 in every five stalls in multi-housing projects and 1 in every 20 in commercial applications.
